New project of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence: Capacity Building of National Minority Councils 10/01/2011 The Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence has commenced work on strengthening the capacities of newly elected National Minority Councils in Serbia. The pilot project supported by the Swiss Embassy refers to the Slovak National Council and the first seminar within the project took place in Zrenjanin, on 10-12 December 2010.

The participants are members and key staff of the Slovak National Minority Council. The program has been developed in close cooperation with the NMC members, and with great assistance and support from the Hungarian National Minority Council.

The seminar was opened by the Minister for Human and Minority Rights Mr Svetozar Ciplic, the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation Mr Erwin Helmut Hofer, and Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia Mr Adriano Martins. Over the course of three working days, the participants had the opportunity to become better acquainted with NMC areas of competence – education, culture, media and official use of language. Within the program, the participants also began the process of developing NMC strategic documents and plans.
