“Empowering Youth for Active Promotion and Development of Youth Entrepreneurship” 12/12/2011 In the framework of the project entitled “Empowering Youth for Active Promotion and Development of Youth Entrepreneurship”, the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence (BFPE) organised a five-day training course from 14 to 18 November 2011. This project is funded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia.

The training course was designed for 40 young people interested in youth entrepreneurship who develop and implement different youth programmes at the local level (representatives of municipal and regional youth offices, student organisations, student parliaments, formal and informal youth associations, art groups, etc.) and for the young entrepreneurs themselves from Becej Obrenovac, Kragujevac, Leskovac, Nis, Prijepolje, Trgoviste, Uzice, Vranje and Zrenjanin.

The first part of the training was focused on national and European youth employment policies, different opportunities for young people through the process of EU integration, the prerequisites for youth entrepreneurship and the concept of social entrepreneurship.

A special section of the course was dedicated to examples of good practices for the development and support given to youth entrepreneurship, particularly from the perspective of local self-governments, domestic and foreign civil society organisations and banks, and the presentation of several successful youth and social entrepreneurial initiatives.

The third phase of the course was dedicated to skill-building giving the participants an opportunity to acquire or enhance the skills necessary for the successful promotion of youth entrepreneurship in local communities. In the final part of the course, participants drafted plans for future activities in their respective municipalities, aimed at solving the problem of a high youth unemployment rate in the Republic of Serbia.
