Jack Hanning becomes ASPS President
Jack Hanning (United Kingdom), former Council of Europe Director of External Relations was elected President of the Association of Schools of Political Studies of the Council of Europe (ASPS) by acclamation at the Association!s AGM in Strasbourg on 7 November 2024.
Mr Hanning takes over from Nils Muižnieks who has been appointed UN Special Rapporteur for Belarus.
Mr Hanning was spokesperson for the former French Minister, Catherine Lalumière, when she was Secretary General of the Council of Europe. She later
became the first President of the ASPS when it was established in 2008.
It was during Mrs Lalumière!s term as Secretary General (1989-1994) that the first school (Moscow) was set up.
Today the Association groups some 20 Schools in Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, Central Asia and Africa.
Before becoming Director of External Relations Jack Hanning was head of the Council’s Communication Department. He has taught at Strasbourg University andat the University of Syracuse.
