During the IV Alumni Forum held on 15 December 2017, the School of Democratic Leadership celebrated 15 years of work

The fourth Alumni Forum, “Integrations – Dialogue – Development,” gathered more than 100 alumni of the School of Democratic Leadership from political parties, media and civil sector. It was also an occasion to present participants of the 15th generation with their diplomas for completing the annual training cycle.

The Forum was opened by Mr Srdjan Darmanovic, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who commented that the challenges faced by Montenegro are complex and are shaking the whole of Europe. Two panel discussions then addressed these questions further.

The first panel was entitled “The actual situation – Montenegro in the integration process” and included interventions by: Gordana Djurovic, Professor at the Faculty of Economy; H.E. Alison Kemp, Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Montenegro; Judy Kuo, Deputy Chief of Mission at the USA Embassy in Montenegro. Ms Kuo stated: “We want Montenegro to be a democracy whose leaders demonstrate the courage to tackle reform, eliminate corruption, foster a vibrant civil society and ensure a free and independent media.” For her part, Alison Kemp assured the continued support of the UK to the Western Balkans and to reconciliation within the region.

The second panel “What does Montenegro expect from the EU membership?” involved 7 speakers from the SDL alumni network who spoke from the perspective of their professions: Rifat Fejzić, Reis of Islamic Community; Zdenka Popović, Member of the Parliament of Montenegro; Aleksandar Perović, Executive Director of the ecologic movement Ozon; Željka Vuksanović, Mayor of Municipality Kolašin; Leon Gjokaj, Director of Directorate for the Improvement and Protection of Rights of Minority Population; Aleksandar Damjanović, Member of the Parliament of Montenegro; Nikola Pešić, President of DPS Youth Council and Mirko Bošković, journalist at TVCG.
